Many remember the locally owned Fleischer shoe stores. Frank Fleischer, who lives in Plain Township, sold his last store at the Country Fair shopping center in the early ’80s.

When Fleischer, who celebrates his 80th birthday July 8, was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in his hips and knees, he tried easing the pressure at night by sleeping with a doctor-recommended pillow between his legs.

No dice, he said, so he set about developing a device that would give him relief. Enter Nee-Z-eeZ, patent pending, now available for $29.95 at both Davies Pharmacies and The Regency’s gift shop as well as on-line at

The product resembles a small foam-filled, fabric-covered hat box.

“One elastic strap goes around one leg, so it is permanently positioned whether you sleep on your back or your side,” Fleischer explained. “And the thickness will work for 85 to 90 percent of people.”

Fleischer, whose stores specialized on orthopedic and functional footwear, said most Americans 55 or 60 experience lower back pain or hip and knee problems. That’s his market as well as women in their last trimester of pregnancy.
